The Case for Physical Albums in the Digital Age

As a wedding photographer, I often get asked by clients if they should invest in a wedding album. With the rise of digital media, it's understandable that many couples are choosing to store their wedding photos on their computers or smartphones. But there's nothing quite like a physical wedding album.

An album is more than just a collection of photos - it's a tangible reminder of one of the happiest days of your life. It's a way to relive your special day and all of the emotions that came with it. And as time goes on, wedding albums are often a treasured keepsake that you can pass down to future generations. In an age of digital media, there’s still nothing quite like flipping through a luxurious wedding album and feeling the weight of the pages in your hands. Ten, twenty, or thirty years from now, you might not have your Dropbox or your might have forgotten the password to your Google Drive. It’s a lot harder to lose a physical wedding album.

Let me tell you about the albums that we make for our clients. Our albums are designed to showcase your wedding day in the best possible way. It’s obviously not possible to put every single photo you took on that day into a single album (although I do know of clients that will store a CD / USB key alongside their albums so that every photo is accessible from one place). Instead, we curate a set of images that together, tell a story about your day. The idea is that as you flip through your album, you can relive the day, getting all the highlights and emotional memories from that day.

Our albums are individually designed and hand-checked prior to being sent out to a client. They’re printed on special paper so that the images do not fade with time, custom bound to your specifications. They’re less "picture books” and more “heirloom coffee table books.”

Our albums are lasting keepsakes. They make fantastic gifts for parents and family who were there for you on your big day, and in fact, we often do multiple layouts for clients who want to customize each album to the intended recipient with specific sets of photos that highlight the intended recipient and their relationship with you. As a wedding photographer, I highly recommend investing in a wedding album to capture and preserve the memories of your big day. Though the ones we design often come at a premium to something you might get done at CVS or Walgreens, I think that the added cost pays for itself in the build quality and the luxurious nature of how the photos are presented.
