Wedding Planning: A Sample Timeline

As boutique luxury wedding photographers based in New York, we understand the importance of capturing the beauty and elegance of your special day. And with so many factors to consider when planning a wedding, we want to help make the process a little easier by providing a simple timeline to guide you through the key stages of planning a successful event. Note that this isn’t by any means comprehensive, but it’s hopefully a good starting point for you as you move along in the planning process.

  • 12-18 months before the wedding: Start planning the big-picture details, such as the date, venue, and overall theme or style. Research and book vendors, such as a photographer, videographer, and caterer. This is also a good time to start thinking about your budget and setting aside money for different aspects of the wedding.

  • 6-9 months before the wedding: Focus on the finer details, such as the wedding party, guest list, invitations, favors, and ceremony and reception music, flowers, and decorations. Start thinking about the honeymoon and making any necessary travel arrangements. This is also a good time to start thinking about the wedding dress and accessories and to make any necessary appointments with a bridal salon.

  • 3-6 months before the wedding: Finalize all of the details and make sure everything is in place. Order the wedding cake, finalize the menu with the caterer, and arrange transportation for the wedding party and guests. This is also a good time to finalize the wedding ceremony and reception details, including the music, readings, and special touches.

  • 1-3 months before the wedding: Finalize the details and make sure everything is ready to go. Collect all of the necessary items for the wedding, such as the rings, dress, and marriage license. Confirm final details with the wedding party and vendors, including your luxury wedding photographer, and make any necessary last-minute changes or adjustments. This is also a good time to start thinking about the rehearsal dinner and any pre-wedding events, such as a bridal shower or bachelorette party.

  • 1-2 weeks before the wedding: Tie up loose ends and make sure everything is ready for the big day. Confirm final details with the wedding party and vendors, and make any necessary last-minute changes or adjustments. This is also a good time to finalize the seating chart and place cards and to make sure that all of the necessary items are packed and ready to go.

By following this timeline, you can ensure that you have everything in place for a successful and unforgettable wedding. But also remember that every wedding is different, and if your timeline looks different that’s okay! Our goal as photographers is to give you peace of mind and to work with you throughout the process so that you have the perfect day that matches you and your personality. Ultimately our goal is to have you trust that your special day will be captured in all of its beauty by photographers you genuinely enjoy working with. So take a deep breath, plan ahead, and enjoy the journey toward your big day!
